The Indians warned great-grandfather about the demons of this New World when the first colonists from Holland sailed up the Hudson River. We call it the Hudson River, after the famed explorer Henry Hudson, of course. They sometimes call it Muheakkanuck ... that's not a famous Indian person. That's a wolf with magic powers. What kind of magic I don't know, but they told him to avoid the East bank of the river, specifically the rocky highlands. It has a normal sounding name-- the dark forest, Pocanteco-- but it contains dark sprits and forces and...werewolves? Spookjes! It is said there is a narrow valley in the highlands, and at night it is completely dark and the moon does not shine...

The people who were here before warned us of these evils, but they didn't warn us about the hobgoblins. They couldn't do that, of course, because we brought them here.
